The Republican Party candidate in the upcoming U.S. elections, Donald Trump, announced his intention to become a president who supports cryptocurrency, Reuters reports, citing its sources.

At a fundraising event for his presidential campaign in San Francisco, Trump presented himself as a defender of digital assets and criticized Democrats' efforts to regulate the cryptocurrency industry.

According to the publication, Trump raised $12 million at the event for venture capital investors from Silicon Valley, organized by Chamath Palihapitiya and David Sacks at the latter's mansion in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

As reported by the media, the meeting was attended by executives from the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, the founders of the trading platform Gemini, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, and other industry representatives.
